Montrose is one of the most unique neighborhoods in the city.

Welcome to Montrose

Montrose is one of the most unique neighborhoods in the city. The area hosts many different kinds of businesses and housing. Some of the best bars and restaurants in the city are located next to neon-lit tattoo parlors or all-night dance clubs. The four-square-mile neighborhood was first developed in 1911 and became the home of some of the most creative and eclectic people and businesses in the city. Located just 2 miles from downtown, the area offers a convenient location and diverse housing options; from renovated mansions, bungalows with wide porches, densely developed townhomes, and cottages on tree-lined streets. Montrose is home to six of the nineteen historic districts in Houston: Audobon Place, Avondale East, Avondale West, Courtlandt Place, Westmorland, and First Montrose Commons.

The neighborhood is notable for being one of the few places in the city where walking is common and walkability is high. There are many grocery options in the neighborhood including; Trader Joe’s, HEB, Whole Foods, Kroger, Randall’s, and Whole Foods. Some notable sites in Montrose include The Menil Collection, Rothko Chapel, Houston Center for Photography, and the University of St. Thomas.
